Pan Am Coming to Parkdale!

July 06, 2015
The Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games Torch is making its way across the country in a 41-day journey that began in Canada May 30. The flame was initially lit in a traditional ceremony in Teotihuacan, Mexico before it travelled to Canada and represents the spirit of the games and is a symbol that unites the 41 Pan American Sports Organizations (PASO) member nations. The torch relay will end on July 10. In between that time the torch will pass through 130 communities and of those 130 communities residents of Roncesvalles Village and Parkdale had the once in a lifetime chance to see the torch pass through their neighborhood. On July 9, day 40 of the relay, the torch came cross Bloor Street West and head south on Roncesvalles Avenue between 10:30 a.m. and ten after noon. From there the torch made its way west on Queen Street stopping at the Centre of Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), where the organization’s president and CEO, Dr. Catherine Zahn will be a torchbearer.

At 1001 Queen St. W., there was a small celebration as the torch then continued its journey along Queen West passing Trinity-Bellwoods Park, then north on McCaul Street and west along Dundas Street, north on Augusta Avenue and west on College Street until it stops at The Toronto West End YMCA by 1:40 p.m. For full article, click here
